The Course

Challenging Golf
"A course you can walk for life”

The caption above is certainly true, as the parkland style course opens itself up to golfers with our varying vistas but very limited change in elevation.   According to the Guinness Book of Records, Arthur Thompson, (1869-1975) carded 103 on January 1, 1973 at Uplands; making him the oldest golfer ever to shoot his age. This is a tribute to an extraordinary man but also to a very walkable and playable course at any time of the year.

Uplands Golf Club has strived to create an environment where you can experience golf in a relaxed and natural setting, only minutes from the centre of Victoria.  As you play its immaculate fairways and greens you will marvel at the beauty and variety of the trees, enjoy the wildlife on and around the water features on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes and take in the majestic views of the Cascades as you approach the 16th green and 17th tee.   As a certified member of the Audubon Sanctuary Programme, Uplands continues its commitment to ensuring that the underlying principles and guidelines of nature conservation are fully adhered too.

Our five sets of tee boxes allow you to adapt the challenge of the game to your level of ability while enjoying good camaraderie in a picturesque setting.   So much so, that the conversation in the bar lounge or restaurant after the game may turn to “not what you scored” but to “what you have seen on the course” - the hawk on the 8th, perhaps a snowy owl on the 7th, a heron fishing close by the 13th green, a deer with her baby fawns or eagles in flight over the 15th hole.

Social/Golfing Life

Uplands members and guests enjoy many social and golfing events during the year in comfortable and casual surroundings, including our popular mixed golf and dinners on Sundays, Friday night member and guest dinners, special occasion event brunches/dinners, Uplands Day, women’s days, Thursday men’s night, award night dinners, duplicate, social and mixed bridge,  Breakfast with Santa - a hugely popular event with our members, children and grandchildren and many other planned events.  As members’ golfing careers end, they continue to embrace and enjoy the Club's social activities for many years thereafter.

Community

Uplands Golf Club has continued to support the community by hosting events such as the annual Heart Fund – Men’s, Women’s and Junior Tournaments,  Alex  A. Campbell Conquer Classic, UVic Classic, as well as being the home of the UVic “Vikes” Golf Team.

As part of the Mackenzie Investments PGA Tour Canada event sponsored by Bayview Place Island Savings event in June, Thrifty Foods sponsors Junior Clinics at Uplands which have provided many young children with the opportunity to enjoy the game of golf in a “fun” atmosphere under the leadership of Ian Stone, our Head Golf Professional and his staff.  The popularity of this event has grown each year and is proven by the increased numbers in registrations since it has been introduced.
